A bandsaw has an upper band wheel (1) mounted on a stub shaft attached to a block which can slide in a vertical guide. The block is supported in the guide by a compression spring of which the force can be adjusted by a screwed rod rotated by a knob (11). The lower band wheel (14) is mounted on a shaft which carries a V belt pulley (52) with two grooves of different diameters. The pulley is driven by a V belt (53) from a pulley (51) mounted on the shaft of an electric motor. This pulley also has two grooves of different diameters to provide two different speed ratios.
