Nitrate removal from water by ion exchange - using strongly basic anion exchanger largely in sulphate form (CS 30.11.79)

Sepn. of nitrates from water (esp. drinking water) is carried out by contacting with a bed of a strongly basic anion exchanger in which 50-100% of the functional gps. are in sulphate form, 0-50% in chloride form and 0-50% in bicarbonate form. The treatment replaces harmful nitrate by harmless sulphate without producing excessive increases in chloride and bicarbonate levels. The treated water has a balance salt compsn. even when the feed water has a high salt content.
