The device secures a wooden pit prop to the end of a cap using a cap shoe forming a support for the cap end and fitting partly round it. The shoe is preferably of Z-section with an angle-piece partly enclosing the prop. head. A connecting piece is provided under the cap support face or on the angle-piece bearing against the prop head. This has a cylindrical shank secured or fitting loose in a blind hole in the prop.
