A tool holder for a tyre removing rig has the profiled tool (10) on the end of a pivot arm (8) and with vertical adjustment for the tool. The wheel is clamped to the bed of the rig and the tool inserted between the wheel rim and the tyre bead to lift the tyre off the rim. Once the bead is gripped the tool holder lifts the tool away from the rim edge. The tool is lifted by a foot control (4) operating a servo. This operates a cam to lift the arm while at the same time moving the tool radially away from the rim. In this position it can pull the tyre bead off the rim without damaging the alloy wheel rim with the wheel rotated on the bed.
