Vehicle identification for traffic flow control - uses adhesive labels and aerial photography to identify vehicles and transmits data to central processing point

To facilitate the control of vehicular traffic, particularly motor cars and trains, a painted or adhesive plastic identification label is fixed on an external horizontal surface of the vehicle. This allows aerial photography to be used to collect data for transmission to a central processing point where vehicles are identified, traffic statistics collected, and traffic control data obtained. The identification is in the form of a rectangular or hexagonal, the grid lines and borders being in black on a white background. In the nine cells of the matrix, coding symbols may be used, or the vehicle registration number. A set of symbols offering less ambiguity than arabic numerals for automatic recognition is given.
