The axial piston pump is partic. intended for mounting to a combustion engine (16). It comprises a piston (2) which is non-rotatably contained in a cylinder (10) and spring loaded (8) to engage the contoured (4) end (11) of a drive shaft (1) co-axial with the cylinder via rollers (3) or like contact elements. The shaft end may project from the engine and have the same dia. as the piston, the cylinder housing (10) being mounted on the outside of the engine. The rollers may be guided via axial slots in the cylinder wall. The piston may have an axial bore into which a projection (13) of the shaft end extends.
