The damper comprises a cylinder and a piston working with a number of balls. The shape alters on engaging with the cylinder wall when the piston moves. The piston (10) has an end ring (11) joining on opposite sides onto piston cone pieces (12, 13) tapering in opposite directions. At the other end of each cone piece is a spring (16, 17) thrusting the balls (18, 19) into the annular gap (20, 21) between the cone piece and cylinder wall (22).
