The roller (2) is for use with adhesive applicator to strip edges and is freely rotatable on the machine frame pressing the edgeing strip against the narrow side edge of a workpiece panel. The roller has an external sleeve (15) of wear-resistant material; a bearing sleeve (14); and an intermediate spring element (16) of elastic material. The spring element has axis-parallel bores (17) positioned in a ring configuration. The bearing sleeve has guide discs (18) at the ends, and the outer sleeve is displacable between them. The compression roller is displaceable on the machine frame at right angles to the movement of direction of the panel, and it can be screwed in position.
