PURPOSE:To make possible the automatic cutting of the steel strip on the feed side when the steel strip is broken on the delivery side of the rolling mill, by installing the controlling devices like as the detector for break of the steel strip, the emergency stop command producer, etc. CONSTITUTION:If the steel strip 1 undergoing the rolling work is borken on the delivery side of the rolling mill 2, it is detected by the steel strip's break detector 12, which then given the output signal to the emergency stop command producer 11. Receiving this output signal, the producer 11 gives the command to the first controller 9 which at once interrupts the uncoiler driving motor 6 to stop the uncoiler 3. Hereby, the traveling steel strip 1 also stops. At this point, the rolling mill 2 continues the rolling of the steel strip 1 in the arrowed direction. Hereupon, if the tensile strength of the steel strip 1 is smaller than the interstand tension between the uncoiler 3 and the mill 2, the steel strip 1 is broken. On the other hand, after a specified time passing by the time delay element 10, the second controller 8 interrupts the mill driving motor 5 acccording to the command given by the emergency stop command producer 11, and the rolling mill 2 is stopped. As a result, the following steel strip 1 overlaps one another on the feed side of the rolling mill 2, and the damage of the roll 14 is prevented.
