The sheet retaining mechanism is intended for the sheet feeding system of a printing or similar machine. It comprises a number of driven pivotable stops spaced along the width of the stack of sheets. The drive comprises four articulated elements consisting of a swivelling drive lever, coupled via a link to a swing arm which carries the stop. The link and the stop are rigidly connected. With the stop in the working position, the link is in line with the lever and, with stop retracted, approx. parallel to the front of the stack.
