The high pressure pick-up is uncomplicated, and has no membrane and operates reliably in weapons applications, giving a linear hysteresis -free response. It is a piston device whose play or space between the piston (2) and its housing is such that the piston thickening caused by transverse contraction and the housing narrowing caused by external essure and screw tightening do not lead to the piston sticking. This is ensured by use of a special easily interchangeable seal (13) for an annular recess (7) in the housing near the piston end. Dust rubbed off the seal is collected along with other matter in a chamber behind a constriction (10). The seal is of elastic material with an annular groove (12) whose cross-section is V-shaped and which is coated with a ceramic layer (17).
