<p>In the hydrometallurgical mining of uranium with ammonium carbonate leaching solution containing hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant for solubilizing the quadrivalent uranium compounds, decomposition of the peroxide due to contact with iron bearing minerals is suppressed by incorporating 1-hydroxyethylidene-1,1-diphosphonic acid and anhydrous tetrasodium pyrophosphate in the leaching solution. The weight ratio of the diphosphonic acid to pyrophosphate is from about 1 to 10 to about 10 to 1, but is preferably about 1 to 6.</p> |
