Heating device for Diesel engine - uses direct injection and heating element in wall of combustion chamber coupled to source via sliding contacts

The heating device for the engine combustion chamber (2) to aid cold starting comprises an electric heating element (4) embedded in the wall of the spherical combustion chamber (2) formed in the base of the piston. The heating element (4) lies in line with the injected fuel stream (3) and has insulated connection leads (5, 5') connected via sliding contacts (6.7, 6', 7') to a stationary source. Pref. each connection lead (5, 5') is coupled to one of two contacts (6, 6') lying in different planes and behind one another on the inside of the position (1). These contacts (6, 6') co-operate with two spring contact tracks (7, 7') housed within the piston (1).
