<p>A cooker (11') comprises at least two electric cooking plates, for example, four such plates (12', 13', 14', 15'). Each plate has a pair of electrical heating resistances (18, 19) to which power is supplied via a respective switching unit (22') comprising a thermostat. Each thermostat switch is so arranged that when part or all of the power to one cooking plate such as the plate 12' or 14' is switched off power is supplied to the other cooking plate 13' or 15'.
