A moisture proof flux, for use in producing steels with reduced H2 content is made be calcining limestone or dolomite to produce calcium oxide and immediately reacting the calcium oxide particle surfaces with CO2-containing gas to convert 2-30 wt.% of the calcium oxide to a calcium carbonate film. Preferably the calcined material is contacted with gas containing >=20% CO2 at 300-750[deg]C the reaction preferably being completed by slow cooling from 400[deg]C to 300[deg]C over >=20 minutes.
|
