PURPOSE:To prevent lowering in printing quality, failure of take-up of an ink ribbon or the like from occurring, by driving an alarm means when the number of detections of the end of an ink ribbon fitted in a cassette designed replacement of only the ink ribbon reaches a predetermined value. CONSTITUTION:When a cassette number is read from a cassette ID recording medium by a cassette identifying detector 19, the cassette number is stored in a vacant cassette number storage area in a RAM 4. When the end of a ribbon is detected by a ribbon end detector 17, the stored cassette number is read, and the number of detections of the ribbon end corresponding to the cassette number in the RAM 4 is updated. When the updated number of detections is not less than a reference value for discrimination of the requirement for cassette replacement, a driving signal for an alarm device is outputted to drive the alarm device 20. Based on the alarm, the operator can replace the ink ribbon before a trouble in ribbon feeding is caused by contamination, deterioration or the like of components of the cassette or the like. |
