Anti-caking treatment of granulates esp. fertilisers - by spraying with an ammonium, sodium or potassium liquid soap

In the prodn. of non-caking granules of granulates of hydrophilic and hygroscopic materials, at least one liquid ammonia soap, sodium soap or potasium soap of a >8C carboxylic acid or of a mixture of 2 or more >8C carboxylic acids is applied to the granules. The anticaking effect is due to reaction between the liquid soap and metals contained in the granulate to form a molecular surface layer consisting of e.g. a magnesium, zinc, cobalt, potassium, manganese, copper or iron soap. Since a molecular layer imparts the necessary anticaking effect, only 0.005-0.1 wt.% of liquid soap is needed for the surface treatment. Used in anticaking treatment of hydrophilic and hygroscopic materials, esp. fertilisers.
