A safety cushion for personnel transport in mines has an open pore foam filling (5) covered with a flame retardant skin (2) and shaped to fit the contours of the seat. The surface cover is also treated to increase electrical conductivity and prevent static discharge. The cover is textured to provide a safety grip. The cushion is fitted to the vehicle using moulded insert grooves (3, 4) on the underside to locate over fitting rails. The open-pore material can have a density of about 0.3/cm3.
