The ashtray with fine-sand hopper comprises two separate vessels, and is opened and shut by a bayonet lock. The upper vessel (13) preferably contains the fine sand, and has a central shaft giving access to the ashes and tipping vessel (14). To the side of the shaft there can be a slot formed between double walls, accommodating a sliding or rollerblind-type shutter. The fine sand vessel may have special lid, and may be sub-divided into four fields three for cigarette stubs and one for cigars.
