Die vorliegende Erfindung betrifft die Umsetzung von Monohydroxyfettsäuren der Formel CH3-(CH2)m-CHOH-(CH2)n-COOH , worin m eine ganze Zahl von 4 bis 9 und n eine ganze Zahl von 6 bis 11 darstellt, mit 12 bis 20 Mol Ethylenoxid und die so erhaltenen Produkte. Die Erfindung betrifft weiter die Verwendung dieser Produkte als Lösungsvermittler.
