<p>PURPOSE:To provide heat-generating material compsn. which generates a large amount of heat by mere exposure to air, consisting of sulfide or polysulfide of an alkali metal or hydrated salt thereof, a carbonaceous material and iron powder. CONSTITUTION:A heat-generating material compsn. is produced by using (A) sulfide or polysulfide of an alkali metal or hydrated salt thereof, (B) a carbonaceous material and (C) iron powder. Examples of (A) are Na2S, Na2S.9H2O, Na2S2. 6H2O, Na2S3.H2O, and Na2S4.9H2O. The material of (B) has a function as a cathlyst. Examples of (B) are charcoal, carbon black, and soot. Carbon black is a preferred material in view of high-temperature heat generation. Preferred materials of (C) are reduced iron powder and iron nitride powder in view of high-temperature heat generation. Usually, the powder having a size of not more than 300 mesh is used. The ratio of A:B:C is 5-70:5-50:5-90 (by weight). These components are mixed in an inert. gas atmosphere. The mixt. is packed, e.g, by enclosing it in an oxygen-permeable package and further enclosing the pack in an oxygen-impermeable package.</p> |
