PURPOSE:To provide silver oxide which has high purity and decomposes only a little in an alkaline electrolyte, by using specific quantities of alkali and persulfate for deriving silver oxide by oxidizing a silver salt with a persulfate in an alkaline solution. CONSTITUTION:Silver oxide for battery is produced by oxidizing a silver salt such as silver nitrate with an oxidizing agent of a persulfate such as potassium persulfate in an alkaline solution. In this reaction, the quantities of the persulfate and alkali are specified as follows: Persulfate is 0.7-2.0 mol for mol of silver salt; and alkali is at least 2.4 mol for 0.7 molof persulfate and at least 5.0 mol for 2.0 mol of persulfate. In addition, the concentrations of silver salt and alkali are limited to 0.2-5Mol and 0.8-2.0mol respectively. Reaction temperature is 80 deg.C, reaction time is 60min., and aging time is 60min,. The above process provides silver oxide which has high purity and decomposes only a little in an alkaline electrolyte, at a high yield with simple processes. |
