The ends of a strap, wound around a package, are normally joined together by creating a zigzag crimped joint by a crimping tool. When high-strength polyester is used for such straps, the necessary friction can be obtained only if the strap surface is given a surface roughness of 0.15 mm depth by rolling between rolls with a diamond powder coating or if a film with a high coefft. of friction such as rust primer with a zinc chromate content is applied to it. The outer cold-rolled metal sleeve likewise has an internal coating to produce surface roughness, such as an anticorrosive primer. The result is a substantial increase of the holding force.
|
