The lift truck has the driving seat mounted on the protective cowling (6) enclosing the battery compartment. A safety cut-out for the battery is operated via a pivoted lever (12) incorporated in the top of the cowling (6), within reach of the driver. Pref. the lever (12) fits into an opening (13) in the cowling (6), with a grip handle (15) projecting above the level of the cowling (6) extending between two parallel forks (14) lying below the level of the cowling (6). The other ends of these forks (14) are pivoted to a shaft (16), with a hook extension (18) at the opposite side of the latter fitting into an opening (25) in an operating plate (24) for disconnecting the battery.
