Device for tensioning an endless belt passed over a guide roller has a pair of chains attached to the ends of the roller and one of the chains is endless and passed over a sprocket which is connected to a drive. Used for registering transversely wire mesh screens or felts in paper making machines. Transverse registering is effected simply in a remote manner without influencing the primary tension in the screen or felt.
