PURPOSE:Readily available N-(beta-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine is used as a starting material, which is brought into contact with a specific catalyst mainly consisting of oxides of copper and chromium under specified conditions to give readily title compound in one step. CONSTITUTION:A compound of the formula (R1, R2, R3, R4 are H, lower alkyl) is used as a starting material and made into a gas by heating to about 200-400 deg.C. The gas is brought into contact with a catalyst to give the objective compound. The catalyst is mainly composed of chromium oxide and copper oxide and, when necessary, a binder wherein the content of both components is about 70wt% or more. The ratio of both oxides is preferably 0.25-1.5 Cr/Cu. The starting material of the formula is obtained from ethylene oxide and ethylenediamine. |
