<p>The submerged electricity generator includes two concentric vertical cylinders (2, 3), the uppermost of which has a dia. equal to half a wavelength of the waves to be used. Two pistons connected together (4, 5) move on a common axis in these cylinders. The upper piston is subject to the varying wave pressure on top, and atmospheric pressure underneath because of a vent pipe (7). The lower piston moves in a cylinder having two valves (11, 12) so that as it moves up and down a current of water flows through a pipe (15) connecting the two valves outside the cylinder. This current of water is used to drive an electricity generator (16). A counterpoise weight (8) balances the piston weight, and jacks (19, 20) are provided for raising and lowering the structure.</p> |
