The pump has a casing (1) which is immersed in the aquarium and contains a centrifugal impeller (2). The impeller is fixed to a shaft (4) which projects vertically from the casing through a guide stub extension (6) on the casing. The shaft is screwed into an extension shaft (5) which runs vertically to a driving motor above the pump casing. The shaft (4) is supported in a bearing (7) within the casing stub (6). There is a clearance between the bearing and the stub and the bearing is held in the stub by an O-ring (9). This holds the impeller and shaft with sufficient flexibility to reduce noise and vibration.
