Potato harvester with soil separation - uses parallel conveyors forming pockets in which potatoes roll

A harvester for potatoes separates the crop from soil by a pair of endless conveyors (22, 24) each with upper and lower runs. The first conveyor has harvesting elements (26, 27) along its length and the second conveyor has its upper run contiguous to the elements to define therewith a series of pockets. The conveyors are arranged with the pockets inclined transversely there across to encourage the potatoes to roll across the pocket widths. One conveyor (24) travels at a higher speed than the other. The second conveyor may be an open lattice framework.
