MEANS AND METHOD OF PROVIDING PRESSURE RELIEF TO SEALED GALVANIC CELLS

There is provided by the present invention a pressure relief mechanism for sealed galvanic cells. The cells contemplated by the present invention include a tubular envelope the mouth of which is sealed with an end cap formed of a resilient plastic material exhibiting low creep characteristics. A gas vent passage is provided in the cap and a plug is disposed in this passage. The plug and passage are adapted so that the plug may be displaced from the passage by undesirably high gas pressure generated within the cell to allow gases to escape from within the cell. A method of forming the pressure relief mechanism is also provided.
