The linear motor has a stator frame (2) which supports a double stator (7) and guided along the track (1) via rollers. The double stator (7) moves transversely within the stator frame, with the reaction rail (10) lying between the two halves, with spacer means (11, 12) for maintaining a precise distance to the reaction rail (10), e.g. to obtain the least possible air-gap. Pref. the double stator (7) is supported by two intermediate frames (5, 6), which move independently along guide slots (3) in the front of the stator frame (2). Each of the intermediate frames (5, 6) pref. has distance setting rollers for maintaining the min air-gap relative to the reaction rail (10), independently of the required tolerance for the tank.
