<p>NEW MATERIAL:A demethylmaytansinoid compound of formula I (X is Cl or H; R is hydrocarbon group which may be substituted). EXAMPLE:Demethyldechloromaytansinol 3-benzyl carbonate. USE:Antifungals, antiprotozoan and antitumor agents, or an intermediate for the synthesis of useful medicines, with low toxicity. PROCESS:A compound of formula II is brought into contact with microorganisms or their treated ones having the ability to convert the OCH3 group at the 20-position into an OH group at 20-50 deg.C and pH5-10 under shaking, aeration, or spinner conditions to give the compound of formula I. Bacillus megaterium IFO 12108 or Streptomyces flavotricini IFO 12770 may be cited as the microorganisms.</p> |
