The toothpaste contains sodium bicarbonate as abrasive to only a smaller extent. An abrasive which is insoluble in water and is compatible with sodium bicarbonate is present to a greater extent. This other abrasive can be silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide, a silicate or a carbonate. The abrasives are dispersed in an aqueous medium which retains moisture. Besides additional thickeners, the paste contains organic surface-active agents, anticaries agents and sweeteners and flavourings. The toothpastes display pleasant cosmetic and good physical properties on use as well as considerably reduced foam formation and are, moreover, suitable for packaging in unlined aluminium tubes. |
