The high voltage switching system for power lines has an auxiliary switch (19) preceding a main switch (13), and includes a resistance across the auxiliary switch. After the auxiliary switch has been closed, the main switch is closed after a controlled lapse of time. This has the effect of reducing power surges. The switching frequency is controlled by a circuit which includes a phase detector (22) connected to the secondary of a transformer (21) at the supply end (11) of the line. This is connected to a delay circuit connected in turn to a drive unit (25) for the auxiliary switch and also interconnected with a further driver (23) for the main switch. An alternative circuit has a resistor in series with the main switch and the auxiliary switch in parallel with the resistor and main switch.
|
