The mechanism is intended for depositing bulk material in the form of an annular heap, particularly in conjunction with a scraper conveyor (12) with a rotating bridge (32) and endless scraper belt (35) for removing the heaped material. An outrigger (17) is moved around a central column (10). The outrigger is rotatable about a vertical axis which is itself carried on a bridge (16) rotating about the vertical column (10). The axis approximately coincides with the centre of the cross section of the annular heap. The dispensing end (31') of the outrigger can preferably be lowered by pivoting the outrigger about a horizontal axis near the axis.
