Exhaust gas afterburner for IC engine - has single igniting electrode common to both primary and secondary combustion chambers which are in concentric mutual arrangement

The afterburner has a cylindrical casing (16) with a central tube (8) concentric within it. Exhaust gas and secondary air pass through this tube which forms the primary combustion chamber. The tube ends in a flow reversing chamber (11) at the end of the afterburner from which the gases flow into a secondary combustion chamber (13, 14) which surrounds the primary chamber concentrically. There is a short circuit opening (9) directly from the primary combustion tube (8) into the secondary chamber (13). The igniting electrode (10) is positioned within the short circuiting opening (9) so that it initiates combustion simultaneously in the primary and secondary chambers.
