Several overlaid layers of microencapsulated liquid crystals are applied, each layer consisting of a mixture of liquid crystals which changes colour at a temperature which differs from that at which the other overlaid layers change. The numerals represented consist of segments (A1, A2, A3...), each segment consisting of differing layers of liquid crystals which change colour at the temperatures whose value brings about the appearance of the numeral consisting of the respective segments. The layers of overlaid microencapsulated liquid crystals make it possible to produce objects of use in numerous sectors, such as advertising, decorating or furnishing, and thermometers indicating numerous temperatures on a confined surface. <IMAGE>
