Textile material composed of cellulose fibres or a mixture of cellulose fibres with synthetic or cellulosic (regenerated, semisynthetic) fibres is pretreated, from an aqueous liquor, with a copolymer. The copolymer contains copolymerised units of maleic acid or derivatives thereof which have a functionally modified carboxyl group. Then the textile material, normally after predrying, is subjected to transfer printing with dyes or optical brighteners. This produces a uniform and level dyeing not only in the synthetic or cellulosic fibre portion but also in the cellulose fibre portion. The textile material does not need to be washed before printing. |
