Single spindle machine tool for machining threaded workpieces - has pneumatic locking device moved axially in mandrel and operated by safety guard

Workpieces (7) which have already been partly machined and have an internal screw thread undergo further machining operations on a single spindle automatic lathe (1). The workpiece is screwed onto a mandrel (4) fixed to a sliding cylindrical block (3) inside the hollow spindle (2). This block (3) is connected by a rod (10) to the piston of a pneumatic cylinder (12). The cylinder exerts an axial force on the mandrel (4) which locks the screw thread and holds the workpiece rigidly during subsequent machining operations. The cylinder operates automatically as soon as the machine safety guard is replaced.
