The towing gear for ski lifts has a brake device (2, 3, 9, 10, 14, 15, 20, 24, 25 and 27) which is assigned to the cable drum (7) and whose brake lining (24) dips into the oil bath (23) of the flat spiral spring (13) during each rotation. The oil bath lubrication of the brake lining (24) ensures a constant frictional value of the brake lining for all influences of weather conditions, as a result of which the previous susceptibility to weather conditions of the known towing gear has been eliminated. A further advantage consists in the fact that the mechanical oil bath brake provided in the already present oil bath of the flat spiral spring operates completely free of maintenance and is substantially less susceptible to faults than oil pressure brakes. In addition, with the mechanical oil bath brake no valves are required since the said brake operates completely without pressure. <IMAGE>
