The current operated relay has its coil operated by the current to be controlled. The magnetic circuit includes a moving armature mounted to pivot between two extreme positions - a rest position and a working position. A switch is opened and closed by the action of the relay, and is subject to a rapid switching spring. The current relay is so arranged that the rapid switching spring is fastened both to the moving armature, and to the moving contact of the switch. The current relay is intended to be used to selectively control power consumption. The relay is inserted between a subscriber and the main network on a supply line along which the total current flows. The line serves several circuits in parallel. When the total current exceeds a certain threshold, circuits which have low priority may be cut, until the total current falls back to an acceptable level.
