PURPOSE:To perform accurate measurement by saturation-charging the development toner prior to measurement of development toner potentials. CONSTITUTION:The standard image of a fixed density is projected onto the surface of a photosensitive drum 1 through a lens 3. After the latent image tube formed is developed with a developing device 4, corona is discharged by a transfer charger 12 until the toner particles of the toner image charge to saturation, thereafter light is radiated by a lamp 17 over the entire part of the toner image portion and the photoreceptor surface of the peripheral edges and lower side of the toner image are destaticized. Thence, the potentials of the toner image are detected with a potential detecting electrode 18 and amplifier 19. According to the detecting value, the toner is replenished into a developer container 6. This makes possible the accurate detection of the toner amount by making use of the nature that the toner cannot hold the charges of more than a fixed charged amount. |
