The variable speed drive control is connected to modify the rotational speed of the transmission shaft of a vehicle. The power from the motor is also controlled to allow for starting conditions and to maintain total energy constant. An electrical traction motor (1) is coupled via gearing (3) to a flywheel (2) to drive a variable speed assembly (4) operated from a continuous controller (8). This drives the wheels (6) of a vehicle through an axle drive gear (7). Tachometers (12, 14) measure input and output speeds of the variable speed assembly to drive function generators (13, 15) providing kinetic energy values which are summed (18) with a potential energy signal (Wp) derived from a gyroscopic sensor (16). The adder output controls the power regulator (10) to regulate the motor current.
|
