The lighter has a tapped bush (5) which holds the flame nozzle and valve. the valve consists of porous pad (15) compressed between the collar (13) and stem (19). Gas escapes through the filter into the nozzle (23). The wheel (25) is torn off its tab (33) and allowed to drop onto the collar (3). The wheel is engaged in an outside hexagon (19). The boss (3) butts up against the boss (29) on the wheel to prevent the valve from being opened beyond the safe limit.
