Pile driver utilising inertia movement reactor incorporates a weight and plunger, or a weight in the form of a plunger. The plunger is immersed in or brought suddenly into contact with a hydraulic fluid, causing displacement of the latter. The fluid can be contained in a vessel or cylinder (ml) accommodating the plunger (m2), so as to form a buffer chamber before or in the latter, and a flushing chamber in or behind it. Construction can be such that resistance and/or viscous friction is minimal, with consequent low losses during plunger movement.
