PURPOSE:To prepare an alpha-olefin polymer having high stereo-regularity, by polymerizing an alpha-olefin in the presence of a highly active catalyst composed of a magnesium compound, a titanium compound activated with an alkoxysilicon, etc., an organoaluminum compound, and an electron donor. CONSTITUTION:An alpha-olefin (e.g. propylene) is polymerized using a catalyst composed of (A) an active titanium component obtained by (1) co-crushing (a) a magnesium halide, (b) an organo-silicon compound having one or more alkoxy groups (e.g. tetraethoxysilane) and (c) a halogenated hydrocarbon (e.g. alpha,alpha,alpha,- trichlorotoluene) and (2) treating the co-crushed product with (d) a titanium halide, (B) an organoaluminum compound of formula (R' is hydrocarbon; X' is H, alkoxy, or halogen; m is 1.5-3), and (C) an electron donor (e.g. ethyl benzoate).
