<p>A belt with elongation of >=1 1/2% after vulcanisation, e.g. to permit emergency installation of a car fan belt without tools, is made by concentrically assembling elastomeric layers and strength member around a cylindrical mandrel, placing the belt assembly on a curing mandrel of smaller diameter, and vulcanising. The member is pref. a continuously helically-wound cord or stretch knit fabric, and is located between layers of elastomeric cushion stock between outer elastomeric compression and tension sections. Curing mandrel diameter is pref. 1.5-13% less than that of the forming mandrel.</p> |
