The medical instrument for investigating the digestive tract and which enables fluid to be extracted from the tract, has a probe head (15) of magnetic material, having a hole (14) through it. This head consists of an olive with a thin plastic outer layer (16) and has a necked portion (18) at the rear, which fits into a resilient tube (13). The olive is controlled by a magnet (36) suspended outside the patient's body above the region being investigated. The magnet is connected by a ball joint (37) to an arm (33) which is attached to a support surface by a clamp with a butterfly nut. The olive is secured or released by a connecting member (21) inside the tube, using a bayonet joint (22). This is remote controlled by a handle at the outer end connected by a wire (19) inside the tube.
