Valve setting tool for IC engine - has adjusting head to rotate valve and locking nuts and measure displacement

The engine is placed on a machine bedplate and clamped (3) in plate. It is coupled to a barring motor and the valve adjusting head brought down over it. The adjusting head contains a drive (9) for the valve adjusting nut and a drive (10) for the locknut. The adjusting head also contains a valve displacement indicator (11). The engine is turned to top dead centre and the adjustment nut is then rotated a known amount. It is then slackened and the valve displacement measured. This provides the data according to which it is finally turned to give the required clearance after which the locknut is tightened.
