A corona discharge ioniser can be used to exert a sterilising effect on foodstuffs stored in a refrigerator or chilling room/chamber. A particularly simple design results when the point electrodes (1) are exchangeably arranged, together with their point carrier (5), in a depression provided on the inner plastic lining (7) of the refrigerator. They are covered towards the chilling room/chamber by a grid (6). The deflecting electrode (9) assembled with the point carrier (5) has the function, when electrostatically charged, of blowing away the ions generated at the point electrodes, resulting in these ions flowing into the chilling room/chamber. A protective resistor is arranged in the inner bore of the point carrier (5). <IMAGE>
